A national Inuit group is creating a research centre to make sure scientists in the Arctic pay enough attention to what the people who live there already know. "Non-Inuit communities don't really understand the Inuit understanding of science," said Mary Simon, head of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami. The centre is to be at the group's Ottawa headquarters and is intended to bring Inuit and southern scientists together, as well as to encourage young Inuit to take up Arctic research.
